So Far In Once Upon a Time

A Recap of the First 10 Episodes

I first wrote about this show after have seen the very first episode, now 9 episodes later I still love it. It is magical, inventive, sweet and original with great actors playing our favourite fairy tale creatures, such as Snow White, Prince Charming, Jiminy Cricket and Rumplestiltskin.

It all begins with a little boy in the village of Storybrooks who firmly believes that everyone in the village are classic fairy tale creatures, only they cant remember it. Emma Swan arrives to storybrooks discovering she is the boy's, Henry, biological mother and his adoptive mother happens to be the evil witch who wants Emma and her mother Snow White (the local school teacher) dead, obviously. Emma comes to Storybrooks stirring everything around, slowly starting to believe Henry's wild claims and while she tries to help him figure everything out she starts developing a relationship with her long last son. Every episode starts out with a small backstory to the characters in the series, how Snow White met Prince Charming, how Rumplestiltskin became evil, why Jiminy Cricket wanted to become a cricket and why Hansel and Gretel can't find their way home.

So it jumps from present time to a parallel time where everything is based around fairy tales and that is just so.. awesome. I have always been so weak for different spins on fairy tales and as I've said before, it was in the beginning very similar to Bill Willingham's fantastic comic book Fables, and still is in a sense but it has moved away in another direction now. The first episodes has laid a solid ground for this series and since there are endless with material for a continuation of this show I'd say it can only get better. So far most episodes are excellent, but the one with the Huntsman and the heart and the one with Hansel and Gretel are the best ones. And.. So, I know it's cheesy, but.. the huntsman..played by irish actor Jamie Dornan.. well, woow.. (see middle picture) Can't say anything more than that. So 10 episodes in I am still hooked and I really hope it will continue on since it's such a nice contrast to all the crap that finds its way in to TV.
